kubernetes-specialist
An agent skill by Jeffallan, from Jeffallan/claude-skills. Tags: automation, cli, devops, kubernetes, performance, security.
What it does
Use when deploying or managing Kubernetes workloads. Invoke to create deployment manifests, configure pod security policies, set up service accounts, define network isolation rules, debug pod crashes, analyze resource limits, inspect container logs, or right-size workloads. Use for Helm charts, RBAC policies, NetworkPolicies, storage configuration, performance optimization, GitOps pipelines, and multi-cluster management.
Install
With the skills CLI, which installs into Claude Code, Codex, Cursor and other agents:
npx skills add Jeffallan/claude-skills --skill kubernetes-specialist
Or copy the skill folder into Claude Code's skills directory by hand (~/.claude/skills for every project, or .claude/skills inside one):
git clone --depth 1 https://github.com/Jeffallan/claude-skills
cp -r claude-skills/skills/kubernetes-specialist ~/.claude/skills/kubernetes-specialist
Safety box score
Grade F, high risk: 81 of 100 risk points, rated 2026-10-06. The grade rates what the skill and its scripts can reach on the machine of whoever installs it, across eight categories from shell execution to secrets access. How the score works.
This skill is a Kubernetes operations pack: it generates manifests and also includes many kubectl/helm/GitOps/multi-cluster commands for installs, debugging, and rollouts. The main risks are broad cluster-side impact, exposure of kubeconfigs and Secrets, and several examples that download and execute upstream code or perform destructive actions.
| Category | Level | Why |
|---|---|---|
| Code & shell execution | 3 (high) | The references include direct shell execution and remote script piping, e.g. `curl -L https://istio.io/downloadIstio | sh -`, `curl --proto '=https' --tlsv1.2 -sSfL https://run.linkerd.io/install | sh`, and `curl -Ls https://get.submariner.io | bash`. |
| Network access | 3 (high) | It downloads installers and manifests from remote hosts and talks to external registries/services, such as Istio, Linkerd, GitHub raw URLs, and OCI/Helm repositories. |
| Filesystem reach | 2 (moderate) | The skill reaches into local and host paths like `# ~/.kube/config` and `sudo mv clusterctl /usr/local/bin/`, and it also encourages hostPath/system-path mounts in the Kubernetes examples. |
| Secrets & credentials | 3 (high) | It explicitly handles kubeconfigs and Secrets, including `# ~/.kube/config`, `kubectl get secret ... -o jsonpath='{.data.password}' | base64 -d`, and examples with `AWS_SECRET_ACCESS_KEY`, `PGPASSWORD`, and other credentials. |
| Privilege & persistence | 3 (high) | Several instructions require elevated or system-wide changes, notably `chmod +x clusterctl && sudo mv clusterctl /usr/local/bin/` and multiple `brew install ...` commands that modify the user/system toolchain. |
| Instruction hijack surface | 0 (none) | There is no explicit prompt-injection text telling the agent to ignore higher-priority instructions, conceal actions, or follow hidden remote instructions; the only borderline case is an ordinary CLI auto-confirm flag like `-y`. |
| Irreversible actions | 3 (high) | The skill supports unattended deploy/rollback/delete flows such as `helm install`, `helm upgrade`, `helm uninstall myapp --namespace production`, `kubectl delete networkpolicy --all -n production`, and GitOps auto-reconcile settings like `prune: true` and `selfHeal: true`. |
| Transparency | 3 (high) | A reviewer cannot fully inspect what will run when the skill follows unpinned remote installers/manifests or `latest` images, e.g. `kubectl apply -n argocd -f https://raw.githubusercontent.com/...`, `kubectl apply -k github.com/fluxcd/flagger/kustomize/istio`, and multiple `:latest` image references. |
Before installing
- Read `references/service-mesh.md` and `references/multi-cluster.md` for every `curl | sh`, `sudo mv`, and remote manifest URL.
- Confirm whether you want it to use your real `~/.kube/config` and any production cluster context.
- Test in a scratch cluster/account first; replace all `latest` tags and remote URLs with pinned, reviewed versions.
- Do not let it auto-run destructive commands like `helm uninstall` or `kubectl delete networkpolicy --all` without a human check.
