setup-pstack
An agent skill by cursor, from cursor/plugins. Tags: ai, configuration, developer-tools, setup, workflow.
What it does
Configure which models pstack uses per role and at what reasoning budget. Detects your available models and writes an always-applied rule that overrides the skill defaults. Use for /setup-pstack, "configure pstack models", "pstack budget", or changing pstack's model choices.
Install
With the skills CLI, which installs into Claude Code, Codex, Cursor and other agents:
npx skills add cursor/plugins --skill setup-pstack
Or copy the skill folder into Claude Code's skills directory by hand (~/.claude/skills for every project, or .claude/skills inside one):
git clone --depth 1 https://github.com/cursor/plugins
cp -r plugins/pstack/skills/setup-pstack ~/.claude/skills/setup-pstack
Safety box score
Grade A, minimal risk: 7 of 100 risk points, rated 2026-10-19. The grade rates what the skill and its scripts can reach on the machine of whoever installs it, across eight categories from shell execution to secrets access. How the score works.
This skill edits a Cursor home-directory rule file at `~/.cursor/rules/pstack-models.mdc` and makes it always apply in future sessions. The main risk is configuration blast radius: it overwrites an existing rule and changes how pstack chooses models and fan-out for future agent runs.
| Category | Level | Why |
|---|---|---|
| Code & shell execution | 0 (none) | No shell commands, scripts, or code evaluation are included; the skill only describes reading and writing a rule file. |
| Network access | 0 (none) | There is no direct downloading or remote sending in the skill text; model detection is described as local session/model lookup, not network I/O. |
| Filesystem reach | 2 (moderate) | It reads and overwrites a home dotfile: `~/.cursor/rules/pstack-models.mdc`, and the rule is `alwaysApply: true`, so the effect persists outside the workspace. |
| Secrets & credentials | 0 (none) | The skill does not request or access tokens, keys, passwords, `.env` files, keychains, or browser sessions. |
| Privilege & persistence | 0 (none) | It does not require sudo, global installs, services, scheduled tasks, or shell/OS setting changes. |
| Instruction hijack surface | 0 (none) | The file contains no hidden prompts or instructions to ignore safeguards; it asks for confirmation and lists explicit validation steps instead. |
| Irreversible actions | 0 (none) | It does not send messages, publish, deploy, pay, book, or delete; its effect is limited to configuration of future sessions. |
| Transparency | 0 (none) | The skill is plain markdown with no binaries, base64 blobs, or uninspectable installers. |
Before installing
- Back up `~/.cursor/rules/pstack-models.mdc` before letting it run.
- Confirm you want pstack to follow these model choices in all future sessions.
- Review the generated rule content before accepting, especially any role list changes or dropped retired roles.
