golang-pro
An agent skill by Jeffallan, from Jeffallan/claude-skills. Tags: automation, cli, debugging, go, microservices, performance.
What it does
Implements concurrent Go patterns using goroutines and channels, designs and builds microservices with gRPC or REST, optimizes Go application performance with pprof, and enforces idiomatic Go with generics, interfaces, and robust error handling. Use when building Go applications requiring concurrent programming, microservices architecture, or high-performance systems. Invoke for goroutines, channels, Go generics, gRPC integration, CLI tools, benchmarks, or table-driven testing.
Install
With the skills CLI, which installs into Claude Code, Codex, Cursor and other agents:
npx skills add Jeffallan/claude-skills --skill golang-pro
Or copy the skill folder into Claude Code's skills directory by hand (~/.claude/skills for every project, or .claude/skills inside one):
git clone --depth 1 https://github.com/Jeffallan/claude-skills
cp -r claude-skills/skills/golang-pro ~/.claude/skills/golang-pro
Safety box score
Grade B, low risk: 23 of 100 risk points, rated 2026-10-16. The grade rates what the skill and its scripts can reach on the machine of whoever installs it, across eight categories from shell execution to secrets access. How the score works.
This skill is a Go implementation guide, not a runnable installer, but it encourages the agent to execute standard build/test tooling and generate code in the target repository. The main risks are repository-scoped file changes, network fetches for dependencies/tools, and copying the example commands too literally into a real project.
| Category | Level | Why |
|---|---|---|
| Code & shell execution | 2 (moderate) | It explicitly directs the agent to run commands like `go vet ./...`, `golangci-lint run`, `go test -race`, and `go generate ./...`, which can execute repository-defined tooling. |
| Network access | 2 (moderate) | The examples and workflow include networked operations such as `go mod download`, `go get -u`, and `go install github.com/golang/mock/mockgen@latest`, which fetch code from external module sources. |
| Filesystem reach | 1 (low) | The referenced Makefile and examples mutate the local tree with commands like `goimports -w .`, `os.WriteFile(...)`, and `rm -rf $(BUILD_DIR)`, but the scope is generally the workspace/build directory. |
| Secrets & credentials | 1 (low) | The configuration example defines secret-bearing environment variables such as `DATABASE_URL` and `REDIS_PASSWORD`, so the skill expects the agent to work with credentials present in the environment. |
| Privilege & persistence | 0 (none) | There is no `sudo`, service registration, shell startup modification, or other system-level privilege requirement in the shipped files. |
| Instruction hijack surface | 0 (none) | The files do not contain instructions to ignore policy, hide actions, follow remote prompts, or otherwise override the agent's rules. |
| Irreversible actions | 0 (none) | It does not publish, deploy, message, pay, or delete external resources; the workflow stays within local development and validation. |
| Transparency | 0 (none) | All shipped content is readable Markdown with inline code samples; there are no binaries, minified blobs, or decoded-at-runtime payloads. |
Before installing
- Inspect `references/project-structure.md` before reusing any Makefile commands, especially `rm -rf $(BUILD_DIR)` and `goimports -w .`.
- Run `go generate ./...` only in a scratch clone first, because generators can execute repository-defined code.
- Pin or vendor any tool installs instead of using `@latest`, and verify what `go install github.com/golang/mock/mockgen@latest` would download.
- Use dummy values for `DATABASE_URL` and `REDIS_PASSWORD` the first time you exercise the config pattern.
