wayfinder
An agent skill by mattpocock, from mattpocock/skills. Tags: multi-agent, planning, project-management, strategy, tracking.
What it does
Plan a huge chunk of work (more than one agent session can hold) as a shared map of decision tickets on your issue tracker, and resolve them one at a time until the way to the destination is clear.
Install
With the skills CLI, which installs into Claude Code, Codex, Cursor and other agents:
npx skills add mattpocock/skills --skill wayfinder
Or copy the skill folder into Claude Code's skills directory by hand (~/.claude/skills for every project, or .claude/skills inside one):
git clone --depth 1 https://github.com/mattpocock/skills
cp -r skills/skills/engineering/wayfinder ~/.claude/skills/wayfinder
Safety box score
Grade C, moderate risk: 26 of 100 risk points, rated 2026-10-16. The grade rates what the skill and its scripts can reach on the machine of whoever installs it, across eight categories from shell execution to secrets access. How the score works.
Wayfinder is a planning skill that manages work as issues on a repo tracker, assigning, commenting on, and closing tickets, and it may push throwaway research branches. It does not run local code or touch secrets, but it does have persistent write access to shared tracker state and remote repo metadata.
| Category | Level | Why |
|---|---|---|
| Code & shell execution | 0 (none) | No shell commands, code execution, or script evaluation are defined in `SKILL.md`; it only describes tracker operations and issue workflow. |
| Network access | 2 (moderate) | It sends data to the issue tracker and, for research tickets, says to "Push the branch" after capturing findings on `research/<name>` branches. |
| Filesystem reach | 1 (low) | The fallback to a "local-markdown tracker" implies repo-local file writes, but nothing suggests access outside the project tree. |
| Secrets & credentials | 0 (none) | The skill never asks for tokens, passwords, `.env` files, keychains, or browser sessions. |
| Privilege & persistence | 0 (none) | There is no sudo, service installation, shell startup editing, or other privilege escalation described. |
| Instruction hijack surface | 1 (low) | `SKILL.md` contains hidden HTML-comment text in the template (`<!-- see "Out of scope"... -->`), which is non-obvious to a normal reader, but the rest is ordinary skill instruction. |
| Irreversible actions | 3 (high) | It instructs the agent to independently claim tickets, post resolution comments, close issues, create new tickets, and push research branches, all without a separate approval step. |
| Transparency | 0 (none) | The files are plain markdown/YAML with no binaries, encoded payloads, or dynamically fetched code. |
Before installing
- Confirm you want the agent to create/close issues and assign itself in your repo tracker.
- Check that your tracker and git credentials are scoped for issue writes and branch pushes, including `research/<name>` branches.
- If you may fall back to the local-markdown tracker, inspect where those files live and whether they stay inside the repo.
